Sheffield International Venues (SIV) has made a key appointment this week in a bid to further its national and international business tourism operations.
Dominic Stokes has taken over the role of general manager of SIV’s conferencing and events brand, which it launched in 2007.
Upon leaving his current position of general manager of Sheffield City Hall, his new responsibilities will include attracting one-off, large-scale events to SIV’s 14 venues across Sheffield.
Dominic said: “This is a really exciting time in the development of Sheffield as a commercial centre and one that is seeing the rise and rise of the importance of today’s business tourist, who we all know will become tomorrow’s leisure visitor.”
He added that business tourism plays a “massive part in the growth of a city and region”.
Over the last ten years SIV has become one of the largest sport, leisure and entertainment companies in Europe.
It owns venues such as Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield Arena, Don Valley Stadium and Sheffield City Hall, which had a £12.5 million renovation in 2005.
SIV has an annual turnover of around £20 million and hosts more than 2,000 events per annum.
